C-MADE, Centre of Materials and and Building Technologies, is a research unit in civil engineering and related areas, formed by consortium between the University of Beira Interior (UBI) and the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) that have complementary resources for research, advanced training, technological development and innovation, within its scientific objectives.
C-MADE’s mission is to foster scientific and technical excellence in research and innovation, contributing to new developments in key scientific areas of civil engineering materials and technologies, which are needed for timely and effectively adaptation and impact mitigation of societal changes and climatic actions.
Its scientific objectives are structured into four main strategic axes:
1. Sustainable materials and binders, which address the main aspects, related to development and implementation environmentally friendly binding materials for building and road infrastructures.
2. Mechanical behaviour and durability, addressing topics such as the structural safety and durability of buildings systems and infrastructures and the implementation of smart warning systems, bringing together monitoring systems.
3. Energy efficiency and environment, focusing on smarter use of energy by improving the energy efficiency of buildings and appliances and reducing the emission of greenhouse gases through behavior change and use of alternative energy and adequate construction solutions.
4. Resource efficiency and raw materials, addressing sustainable and efficient use of resources, mitigation of human environmental impacts and adaptation to global changes.
